What is NExT?
The National Exit Test (NExT) is set to replace FMGE as the single licensing exam for all medical graduates — Indian and foreign — to practice in India. It also doubles as the PG entrance, replacing NEET-PG. For students heading abroad, preparing for NExT alongside your MBBS is the single most important career decision you'll make.
Start from Year 1, not final year
The biggest mistake foreign medical graduates make is treating the licensing exam as a post-graduation problem. Toppers integrate India-pattern preparation into every semester:
- Years 1–2: master Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry with Indian standard textbooks alongside university material
- Years 3–4: Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology — start MCQ banks (Marrow, PrepLadder)
- Years 5–6: clinical subjects + full-length mock tests every month
Clinical exposure is your edge
NExT emphasizes clinical case-based questions. Take your hospital rotations seriously, maintain a case log, and during India vacations, arrange observerships in Indian hospitals to understand the Indian clinical context and disease patterns.
